Sweet Potato Council The United States Sweet Potato Council is the advocate for the economic well-being of U.S. sweet potato growers.

The Council is a voluntary organization. Its financial support comes from dues paid by state organizations, from Associate Membership dues, and individual sponsorships.

U.S. sweet potato growers and the entire U.S. Sweet Potato Industry benefit directly and indirectly from the activities of the Council. The Council supports the Industry by:
  • Implementing reasonably priced promotion activities
  • Monitoring federal issues affecting the growers' ability to produce efficiently
  • Lobbying key Congressmen and federal staff on federal issues important to growers
  • Provide a forum for bringing together, on a national level, growers and issues of diverse regions

***A powerhouse of nutrition, the sweet potato is a perfect example of good food that's good for you. Sweet potatoes are:
  • bursting with beta carotene (vitamin A)
  • high in vitamin C
  • good sources of fiber
  • fat-free
  • cholesterol-free.

***In fact, the sweet potato has taken top honors in two surveys of the nutritional benefits of vegetables. And, when eaten with the skin, it has more fiber than oatmeal. One medium (4 ounce) sweet potato, baked with the skin, has about four times the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of Vitamin A and almost half the recommendation for Vitamin C.
